In fact, those of you who develop screen reader projects for
Linux..write the researchers.
Also spread this to everyone you know who is accessing their computers
using something other than windows or a mac.
https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey7/

Why? because this survey is very well respected, with the results
incorporated into the practices of many companies. It is really time
Linux became noticed as a tool used by those who experience blindness.
I want it included, and I am only a shell user of Linux!

Taking it with lynx is fubar elinks simply doesn't get beyond the "begin
survey"
link. Lynx does a bit better but the "other" fields are not available.

I blasted them in comments.

What other fields are you referring to? I was able to take the entire
survey in lynx without problems a couple of weeks ago.

Greg,
In questions where there is no correct answer and an "other" selection,
there is a text box of line chars after the word "other"
I could find no way to get the cursor into these text boxes, thus was not
able to put in speakup linux etc.
Is there a lynx trick about that I don't know? most likely!

Thanks

Tom, how do you know there's an edit field after other? I just checked
to be sure without filling out or submitting the survey for a second
time using firefox, and I don't see any edit fields besides the
comment field. Maybe someone else has something to add here?

Greg,
My wife took a look and straightened me out
What is there, after "other" is the bottom of a "legend" box made of
underlines
There is a top to these boxes above the "no response" or what ever is at the
top of choices for each question.
and I think pipe signs along the left and right edges of these boxes.

I'm so used to seeing underlines as edit boxes, and wasn't familiar with the
legend box that I jumpped to an incorrect conclusion.

But I think you'll aggree that not allowing input of "other" choices in many
questions
in this survey biases it against the linux choice. It means they have to
pay attention to the comments section.

Since similar problems with previous years surveys havn't resulted in
changes, I'm not convinced they are prepared to care.

Two biases every survey has. The choices it doesn't allow and questions
it doesn't ask are one bias and the choices any survey allows and
questions any survey asks are the second bias. That's why I avoid
surveys whenever possible. College-level courses on survey design exist
and I think many survey writers never took those courses or cut the
classes.

Even if they took the courses, most marketing surveys and product
satisfaction surveys are written to get the results management wants.
or to support the biases of the grant funders.

I noticed something weird about it too.
I was able to get through it, but I am used to opening combo boxes, and in
this survey, you only needed to arrow down to an option, and to see if it
was checked, I had to down arrow and shift back to make sure.
So in some way it was easier, but more difficult by not giving me the
feedback.
I used Jaws 18 on Windows 7, and IE 11.
